The beginning of the book is interesting where he tells how they got started and their backstories but beyond that this is really Mick reviewing and trashing a lot of Metallica records. He states when they put out Master of Puppets that it is way ahead of Ride the Lightning in every aspect especially in songwriting and production. I think a lot of people would disagree that MOP is better than RTL. Why have I heard For Whom the Bell Tolls in a few movies. Can't recall any MOP songs that I know of. FWTBTs and Fade to Black I think are 2 of the best songs they ever recorded. He really puts down Justice for All... which I think a lot of Metallica fans believe is thier fasted and heaviest albums. Even to go as far as to put down the CLASSICS Harvester of Sorrow and Shortest Straw. He even blatenly lies saying Four Leave Clover wasn't a hit in America. Funny the song went to #1 on mainstream rock chart. (Really the only radio format that plays Metallica songs.) Another thing he trashes is Death Magnetic. And asks "Why did they record this? Well Mr Wall, I think it was for the fans that absolutely love hearing new music from them. (Especially ME!) He says they brought back their old sound but all the songs were fogettable after listening to them. I know I haven't forgotten them and loved the record. I personally think its the best since Justice and IMHO many of the songs are classics. I will say that he was fair to Jason Newstead telling about how such a raw deal he got from joining a band he loved. I would say its worth reading for Metallica Fans but his reviews of Metallica's records which makes up a lot of the last half of the book is just awful.

I don't usually review books but this time reading the rubbish written by what must be Jason Newsted's girlfriend below I just had to. I live in the UK and was lucky enough to get a copy of this book for Xmas. I have since read it three times. I am also a Metallica nut and have other books on them. None are even close to this one though. Enter Night is a masterpiece. Far from playing favors, Wall ignores the band's feelings to tell it as it is. It's amazing they will want to stay buddies with him after they read it. The truth hurts fellas and this is it. It also means when Wall says something is good you know it really must be. Best rock book I have read for a very long time. But then hey this is Mick Wall. If you read his Zep book you'll know this guy is an awesome writer.

Five stars for a thorough and interesting review of each band member and their respective backgrounds, as well as what was going on with the band and what they (and producers) were trying to achieve with each album and even many individual songs. It proved to be one of those books that I couldn't wait to start reading again to shed light on what would happen in the next few months/years/events for the band. Since reading and finishing the book I've found myself listening more to Metallica and thinking about what it was going through at the time the song was wrote and what went into writing that particular song. Admittedly I did not like how freely the author would criticize or speak ill of many songs and some albums, some of which I think were some of Metallica's better songs and work overall. These are Mick Wall's personal opinions, and he is certainly entitled to them, but I didn't appreciate nor value his thoughts on them, I read the book to know about the band itself. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a Metallica fan or even just a fan of hard rock music.

You don't need to read this book if you have already read Joel McIver's masterful books, JUSTICE FOR ALL: THE TRUTH ABOUT METALLICA and TO LIVE IS TO DIE: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF METALLICA'S CLIFF BURTON.If you have not read McIver's books, then be sure to read TO LIVE IS TO DIE for an account of Cliff. And before that, read Wall's ENTER NIGHT for an up-to-date biography of the band and for more even handed musical criticism. McIver doesn't like much of Metallica's work after AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. Wall sees more value in it, though he is unduly negative on DEATH MAGNETIC.Unlike McIver or any previous biographer, Wall spends some time discussing the rumor that shortly prior to Cliff's death, Cliff and James had seriously discussed replacing Lars. The speculation that Dave Lombardo from Slayer would have been brought in to replace Lars seems spot on, as Lombardo was particularly unhappy with his bandmates at that time. What would have happened to Lars? Wall doesn't speculate, but I'd wager he would have gone to Dave and joined up with Megadeth. Now that really would have made for some bitter rivalries in the thrash world!Wall helped answer a question that always bothered me: When they got to be arena headliners, why did Metallica have Queensryche and The Cult open for them? Why didn't Metallica take a page from Ozzy's playbook and have an opening band that was more underground and extreme? The answer: both Queensryche and The Cult were represented by Metallica's management, QPrime. I really like both Queensryche and The Cult, and I enjoyed those shows. But it would have been great if Metallica challenged the audience with Death, Cannibal Corpse, or Morbid Angel as an opening band. And what a difference that could have made for Metallica's future development.Wall makes a couple of howling mistakes, both owing to his being from Britain: First, he claims that the GARAGE DAYS RE-REVISITED EP was released as THE $9.98 EP in America. Incorrect. It was released as THE $5.98 EP on cassette and record and was also released on CD as THE $9.98 CD. Second, he claims the album AND JUSTICE FOR ALL takes its title from the final line of the Declaration of Independence. The phrase is actually found in the final line of the Pledge of Allegiance. But the more direct inspiration for the album title comes from 1979 Al Pacino movie AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.All in all, it's worth a read if this will be the first book on Metallica you pick up.

In-depth, good story. Not big Metallica fan, but enjoyed it.

I knew most of this stuff.Enjoyed the detail about the album recording sessions.Had some good pictures but not too many.Didn't agree much with the authors take on the last ten years or so of Met's albums (he thinks they all basically sucked.He kind of slammed Death Magnetic which is crazy, that album was GREAT.

Resistant patients are patients who have not been able to confront the reality of past and present losses, disappointments, and frustrations, who instead protect themselves from the pain of their grief by clinging to their defenses. The resistant patient is a defended patient within whom there is conflict between those healthy forces that press "yes" and those unhealthy counterforces that insist "no". Such patients resist feeling what they know they should feel and doing what they know they should do. Working with Resistance integrates concepts drawn from classical psychoanalysis, self psychology, and object relations theory and presents a contemporary theory of therapeutic action that takes into consideration structural conflict, structural deficit, and relational conflict - all of which ultimately both fuel the patient's progress in the treatment and oppose the patient's movement toward health and the realization of his potential. As part of the work to be done, patient and therapist must be able to understand and name, in a profoundly respectful fashion, both sets of forces - those healthy ones that impel the patient in the direction of progress and those unhealthy resistive ones that impede such progress. Before the defenses can be relinquished and the resistances overcome, the patient must come to appreciate his investment in the defenses, how they serve him, and the price he pays for holding on to them. Martha Stark has always been interested in exploring the relationship between theory and practice - the ways in which theoretical constructs can be translated into the clinical situation. To that end, she proposes specific interventions for each step of the process by which thedefenses are worked through and the resistances are rendered less necessary. Conflict statements, for example, are empathic interventions that highlight the conflict within the patient between his knowledge of reality, informed by the present, and his experience of reality, informed by the past. It is the internal tension created through the patient's awareness of that discrepancy that will provide, ultimately, the impetus for change. Within the context of the safety provided by the relationship with his therapist, the patient will finally be able to feel the pain against which he has spent a lifetime defending himself. As he begins to confront the reality of the parental limitations, he begins to let go of the defenses around which the resistance has organized itself - he lets go of the past, lets go of the relentless pursuit of infantile gratification, and lets go of compulsive repetitions. Only as the patient grieves, doing now what he could not possibly do as a child, will he get better.

Martha Stark, M.D., is on the faculty of both the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute and the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis. She is also a clinical instructor in psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School, has a teaching appointment at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, and is on the faculty of the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

I've been on the fence about real estate investing for a long time. I'm the type of person that wants to know everything before going in... analysis paralysis. This book has covered everything I've heard and explained it in a way that I could understand. I definitely feel ready to begin my real estate journey.

I have read a half dozen or more books on investing in multi-family rental properties in the last few months and this is the best by far! One of my favorite quotes is on fear. When he touched on the subject, I thought, "Oh here we go - another 'can of tuna' speech!" Years ago when I sold my first home, a realtor told me, "Don't worry! Buying and selling houses is just a transaction - just like buying a can of tuna at the store." Five weeks later I had closed on my old house but was ten days away from the closing on my new house. Everything I owned was in storage, my pets were in a kennel and I was lying in a sleeping bag in a friend's spare room at 3am looking up at the ceiling thinking, "Can of tuna, huh?" Transactions involving people's homes and livelihoods always have emotions attached to them to some extent - and we don't want those feeling to drive the process, but to deny them is, well, denial.To his credit, Chandler says, "Honor your fear. Listen to it and then answer. The only way to make it go away is due diligence - you have to run the numbers. And, if the numbers work, your fears will be silenced." That advice is not only true in investing, it is true in life. The rest of the book is equally well written and wise. I plan to refer to it again and again as I slowly build my portfolio.

I have bought and sold a few homes. I’ve never really had a formula. I now have that formula and I’m super excited to get back in the game. Hold has shown me a great step by step process to buy and hold homes for the long term! I’m confident and certain that if I use these guidelines to make decisions, I’ll be on my way to having a great portfolio of homes that will cash flow for many years. Thanks guys! Love the book and I think I’ll be using it for closing gifts for my mortgage clients.

Great book for beginners that don’t know where to start. Very easy to follow and gives you great examples. I highly recommend.

Very in depth with great material and viewpoints. Basically gives you a step by step guide to building a real estate investing business.

Very good overview of buy-and-hold investing using solid fundamentals. Some helpful worksheets and forms included for download. Not the only title out there on this subject, but the authors have obviously "been there and done that" and because of that this book is worth a read, especially if you're just getting started or are questioning your investing plans. You should be reading constantly anyway if you're an investor. This book is worth your time.

This is an excellent book that breaks everything down step by step. It takes the mystery out of real estate investing and presents the facts in a very accessible way.

Definitely recommended if you are thinking of investing in real estate.

A fun book to read, and one which will be shared with my boys when they grow older.

To be fair, this book was a present for my boyfriend who was a big fan of his. I looked through it and it didn't really capture me and my boyfriend didn't finish it.

This book is a shocking tell all exposing the questionable homoerotic activities lead by Pocklington (former Oilers owner) and embraced by the Oilers' players during their best years. Shameful and disgusting? Sure, but a joy to throw in the face of Oilers fans.

Who knew that Mr. Lady Bing was so opinionated? In that respect, this book was a pleasant surprise, because anyone can give the standard PR/PC spiel. I thought I was getting the usual sports bio, "We went into game 5 tired and spent, yada yada yada..." While Wayne does include things like that, he does provide insight on what it feels like to be a highly recognizable person. Most celebrities are too egotistical to admit to feelings of lonliness at the top, yet Wayne admits these feelings, and also enjoys his moments. I also liked how he pulled no punches when it came to his feelings about Peter Pocklington. You'll want to get into a hot shower and scrub yourself red, after reading the chapters on The Trade. He also occasionally decries The Supreme Lord Sather. Nice to see someone in the game not worship at the altar once in a while, isn't it? Yet he's still the greatest ambassador hockey has had. This book is better than Kevin Lowe's gloss-job, I'll tell ya that.
